Let’s be honest: What’s the only thing that’s worse to deal with when you have excess body fat you’re not happy with? Well, having to exercise when you really don’t enjoy it. Don’t stress, though. If you’ve concluded that you aren’t happy with the excess fat situation, then it’s time to do something about it. We have the skinny (pun intended) on getting toned with five trainer-recommended activities you can do each day that will burn fat if you hate “exercising.”
We spoke with Onur Can, a personal trainer on Fyt, the nation’s largest personal training service that makes fitness under the expert guidance of an in-person or virtual, certified fitness professional convenient and accessible for anyone. Can tells us, “Being social is a great distraction for many people who do not enjoy exercising. Specifically, I recommend joining local groups for a meetup or club. There are plenty of activities out there for people who are looking to socialize and be active at the same time- many of which one can do independently or in a group setting (or both).”
So without further ado, get ready to have some fun, social activities for those who don’t particularly enjoy exercising that can help burn fat. If you hate “exercising,” pack up your backpack and lace up your sneakers, because hiking is an awesome weight-loss method. You can take in the picturesque scenery in the good ol’ outdoors and burn a higher amount of calories than just walking. (According to Healthline, you’ll burn even more calories each hour if you opt for a route that features a higher grade.) Someone who weighs 180 pounds can burn 435 calories per hour when hiking at a moderate speed at a 1-5% grade, compared to burning 287 calories each hour when walking at a moderate pace (via Healthline).
Can adds, “Outdoor activities, like hiking, can also be performed independently, and you can incorporate your favorite podcast, music, or book.”

Springtime is the absolute best time to get involved in a local sports league such as kickball, softball, or soccer. Softball, for example, can help you burn an estimated 480 calories in an hour playing this sport (based on a male who weighs 190 pounds). The best part of being involved in a team sport is you’ll be having so much fun, you will lose track of, well, losing your calories!
Get your namaste on. Yoga is such a popular pastime, and for good reason. There are so many different types, from vinyasa to restorative to Bikram (which is a kind of hot yoga), so you can find the one that best suits your personal preferences.
Oh—and get ready for the calorie burn. According to research done at Colorado State University, women can burn as many as 330 calories, and men 460, when taking a Bikram yoga class. Bikram has also been reported to enhance your lower body strength, balance, and range of motion in both your lower and upper body. What’s not to love about that?

Let’s get real: Biking is always the best kind of outdoor fun. Plus, you’ll be burning calories while doing it. An individual who weighs 155 pounds and goes on a 30-minute, moderately-paced bike ride (12 to 13.9 mph) can burn around 298 calories. A 185-pound person can burn around 355 calories during that timeframe while biking outdoors (via Healthline).
Sometimes, outdoor activities are much more fun when you’re not alone. Can says, “You can invite a friend to join you on the outdoor activities to dial up the 1:1 social interactions, and get your mind off the exercise.”
Pickleball is the latest sports craze, and everyone seems to be jumping on it. Not only is it so much fun, but it’s also an excellent cardio workout, making it an extraordinary way to burn fat if you kind of hate “exercising.”
The game can be pretty intense, and you can apparently burn off around 8 to 11 calories every minute you play. Columbia Association points out that the game is slower-paced when compared to tennis, so it’s better for your joints and enhances coordination and balance. It’s also a great opportunity to get social. Put this low-impact sport on your to-do list, and you’ll be right on trend while burning that fat right off.
