Grace Drohan has been trying on and off to lose weight for years, and had tried a number of diet plans that didn’t work for her.
However, it was during lockdown that she decided she was really going to do this, and has since lost two stones, which has made an amazing difference to her health and her confidence.
The Waterford woman told RSVP Live: “I had been trying to lose weight since my early 20s. That’s when I started putting it on.
“There wasn’t a moment I can pinpoint that I wanted to start losing weight. When I turned 21, I went out with my family and I had my obligatory ‘I’m 21 today’ badge on me, and a woman in the bathroom came over to me and said, ‘Oh, you’re 21! I would have given you 40’.
“I do remember dressing for my 21st and I was dressing older because the plus size clothes were an older style.”

Eight years ago, Grace decided to join Slimming World and found some success – but around this time, she met her partner and as some do while in relationships, she gained some weight.
“It was really lockdown that I was like, I need to do this,” said Grace. “There’s no pub, there’s no bottomless brunches with the girls, I just need to embrace healthy eating and exercise.
“I had never really been off Slimming World, but I was doing it my way. I would over eat and binge and go over my calories, and then I would try and claw it back Monday to Friday, and then do it again. I would go out to the opening of an envelope, so lockdown was good in the sense that I couldn’t go out.”
Grace threw herself into sticking with the Slimming World plan and was bringing her dog for walks very regularly and really loved walking.
“It’s such a simple thing, you really don’t realize what walking does for your mental and physical health,” she said.
“I had a light bulb moment, I was like oh, this does work,” she said. “The only thing that was hindering me was drinking.
“I love a drink with good times, for celebrating, and to relax in the evenings.”
However, because of the high calories in alcohol, this was the only thing hindering her journey. Grace went on to cut out alcohol for three months and saw amazing results.
“I sometimes thing two stones isn’t a lot, but it is,” said Grace. “Especially for the normal person who wants to be healthier. I sometimes see those massive transformations and I wish I could do that, but I need to stop looking at that.
“I’m going to celebrate the two stones. It has made a huge difference in my clothes and my fitness.”
Grace has set up an Instagram to show her meals and her progress. You can check it out here.
